Anyone familiar with Maddian idiosyncrasy realizes my "obsession" to give time in a twenty-four hour format, as opposed to the common 12 hour format dominate in the United States. The above link is additional information about this time format. Below are some key notes about the 24-hour format.

It actually does not surprise me to hear you say that with your extensive background in foreign language. As usual, the US is the odd ball when it comes to something. I hope to get Jarin stuck on a twenty-four hour clock at the same time he gets on a twelve hour clock, similar to learning manual so you can drive both.

When you understand it, things are less confusing. I mean, if I say, "I will have that to you by eight" then I know exactly what you mean. I do not have to go into the, "do you mean 8 in the morning or at night?"

In fact, to that, I will say when I tell a customer we shall have their service fixed by 8 P.M. I would not ever have to hear the customer say, "So it is gonna be fixed by eight in the morning?" I have even had to go over it multiple times, because for whatever reason, the customer thinks "in the morning". If I simply said, "We shall have that fixed by 2000" then the customer could just stick to yelling at me because that time is not acceptable

Of course, if people learned to listen in the first place. Oh well, another story, another time!

yeah my students always ask me how to say am and pm in Spanish and I have to explain to them that they don't use it, ANYWHERE else.

I must say...I am NOT a fan of the 24 hour clock and Madd will be able to verify that he gives me a headache when I ask him a question that requires an answer about time.

Ah yes, very much so that is correct. Of course, I would get into how others cannot give you a headache, but that is a totally different thread to tackle

The 24 hour clock is much more convenient than the 12 hour in the long run. It just takes a while to get use to.

The times I got most mixed up (and occasionally do) when looking at a clock is 20:00 I think 10pm for some reason?

I've never been a fan of the 24 hour clock - but I am used to it now thanks to Madd. Which is a good thing on my job now, as ambulance and anesthesia reports (as well as most other medical documents) are filled out with 24hour time.

Probably just because I wasn't used to it - it wasn't "normal" (for us silly Americans). Kind of like how it is ridiculous that we do not use metric, as it is so much easier and is the worldwide norm - but if I were to go to the gas station and see it cost however much per liter, I would be annoyed because I wouldn't know what that translated to in gallons until I got used to it.

oh yeah the metric thing is annoying!

It would cost some money, but I think in the long run it would be worth it. it would probably take 20 years. Just so long as our kids could learn it new and not just learn it and then not talk about it again.

Yeah, I think it takes a while for some to get adjusted. In my job, we end up having systems that run strictly on both a 12 and 24-hour time.

I have that same problem, despite enjoying the 24-hour clock so much. So if ever I tell you I plan on doing something at 20:00, make sure it is the actual time of 8:00 P.M. and not 10
