The Pittsburgh Penguins are coming to California in November. I just bought my tickets over the weekend. This is the team I've wanted to see in person the most.

After this, I'll have seen all my favorite teams play in person. Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Twins, and most importantly.... Pittsburgh Penguins!

They seem to be doing rather well this year, having clinched a playoff spot. I am not much into the NHL, and have been doing some research. It appears that points is more important than actual games won? I noticed they have 101 compared to the 103 points the first place team in the division has. So points are more important than wins?

Yes, points matter more. Though a win is worth more points than a tie.
So you could have 1 win, 3 losses, and 0 ties
or 0 wins, 1 loss, and 3 ties

this would give you the same result in points.

It's a little more complicate than that, but it is a good introduction.
